Who determines the right location?

Chatters franchising and leasing department source the locations. In the process, extensive research is done including market demographics, success of other fashion retailers in the trade area and a close eye on the competition.

Who manages the development of my store?

Store development including design, construction, inventory, staffing and equipping the store is all handled by Chatters corporate head office. The store is provided to a franchisee on a “turn key” basis.

Who holds the lease for the premises?

Chatters holds all head leases and each Franchisee subleases directly from Chatters.

What ongoing support is provided?

This background and infrastructure provides a dedicated support network and a wide array of tools for our Franchisees.

Chatters Franchisees will also have secured access to an internal franchisee only internet site with convenient tools and resources to support them in successfully operating their business.

What is the franchise fee?

The franchise fee for a Chatters location is $40,000.

What are the royalties?

Royalties are 6% of total gross sales.

What are the advertising fees?

2% of sales net of GST, PST or HST paid to a separately accounted and managed Advertising Fund.

What are the costs involved in opening a Chatters franchise?

The costs to open a Chatters franchise can vary depending on the size of each location, the Franchisee's investment in inventory and local market conditions. We provide estimates to all prospective Franchisees only once we've finalized the lease terms and have inspected every location.

Chatters Salons in approximately 2000 sq. ft. turn key from $400,000 to $600,000; Salon and Beauty Supply Outlets in approximately 3500 sq. ft. turn key from $500,000 to $700,000 including leasehold improvements, fixtures, equipment and inventory.

Does Chatters Canada provide assistance in securing financing?

In Canada, most of our Franchisees secure financing through the Canada Small Business Loan Program. This government guaranteed loan program is available through most of the major chartered banks. For those who qualify, financing can typically be secured for approximately 80% of the costs of leasehold improvements, fixtures and equipment. Typically these loans are at an interest rate of Prime +3% with a term/amortization of five years.

Franchisees deal directly with their bank to secure financing. Chatters Canada provides support in developing the business plan, along with guidance and assistance throughout the loan process.

How much unencumbered capital is required for a Chatters franchise?

In order to qualify for a Chatters franchise, applicants must have access to a minimum of $300,000, in addition to the bank financing. As an example, Franchisees may use a home equity line of credit to fund the $300,000 required.

What are the hours of operation?

Chatters franchises located inside major regional shopping centres must follow mall hours. Franchises that are located in big box power centres are, as a minimum, open Monday to Friday from 9 til 9, Saturday from 9 til 6 and Sunday from 11 til 6.

How do stores purchase inventory?

Most products are purchased directly through Chatters Distribution.

What income can a Franchisee expect to earn?

The level of income that a Franchisee earns is dependent upon a number of factors, including the Franchisee's level of involvement in the operation, sales performance, cost controls, fixed overhead, location and market. Experience has proven, however, that Chatters returns exceed industry standards.

Can a Franchisee own more than one location?

Many existing Chatters Franchisees are multiple store owners, and we encourage multi-unit franchise owners. The decision to allow subsequent locations is based upon a number of factors including the Franchisee's operational record and financial strength.

Is there a discount on multiple locations?

Yes, the initial franchise fee if reduced by 33% to $26,667 for additional locations.
